Kitsu Suki - causing loss

L5R CCG Rules board, 15 April 2012 to 16 April 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 15 April 2012

If no players control any ancestors, and I use Suki. Can I cause my opponent(s) to lose 1 honor without losing an honor myself?

Limited: Each player who controls an Ancestor gains 1 Honor. For any player who controls no Ancestors, and with higher Honor than his starting Family Honor, you may cause him to lose 1 Honor.

Grammatically it sounds like from "you may cause him*** " that it means I cause 1 player to lose honor (like 'each' player). But 'for any' sounds like 1 clause that causes all players with that condition to be effected.

The "you may cause him" clause is written in the singular (rather than "you may cause them," which would be all such players), so there is a separate choice per player, not just one choice.
