searching for 'card type' follow up.

L5R CCG Rules board, 6 April 2012 to 8 April 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I see on April 6th it was changed

A: I understand that we are not obligated to follow this rule until 30 days after April 6th? Or will it effect tomorrow's kotei?

B: What about searching for a card with a specific keyword. For example, Bitter Lies Student searches the fate deck for a non-unique weapon. neither 'non-unique' nor 'weapon' are card types as defined on http://rules.l5r.com/EE_Card_types, nor is it a specific card. Weapon and unique are keywords.

C: Does this also apply to really broad card types such as searching for 'a fate card'. So if I got to search for 'a fate card' and put it into my hand, would I be forced to reveal it? (walking the way I guess say search the fate deck for 'a card' but I still want to be sure)

Weapon and unique are keywords. If there are conditions on the card searched for, then the card must be shown to demonstrate that it meets the conditions of the search.

C: Does this also apply to really broad card types such as searching for 'a fate card'. So if I got to search for 'a fate card' and put it into my hand, would I be forced to reveal it? (walking the way I guess say search the fate deck for 'a card' but I still want to be sure) Walking the Way specifies the deck that must be searched, but puts no conditions on the card. You need not show the card that you have retrieved with Walking the Way.

Here you say that you don't need to show the card that Walking the Way fetches but under the rules for searching it states "If an effect searches for a specific card (such as "Ring of Water") or card-type (such as "a Ring"), the player must show it if he chooses to retrieve it, to verify that he has retrieved the appropriate card or type, even if the search effect does not specify it is shown. [ADDED 6 April 2012] "

So since Walking the Way doesn't specify a type of card you don't have to show it?

Right. You do not have to show the card searched for by Walking the Way.
