Double Consideration

L5R CCG Rules board, 26 January 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 26 January 2012

What happens when personality is targeted by two Consideration's:

a) He has +6F and two negation effects, that are used up to negate effects one at a time, effectively fizzling two different actions ? b) He has +6F but only one effective negation effect, since both copies of Consideration trigger at "the next time" and are used up at the same moment?

Relevant text:

Open: Choose your performing unbowed Tactician and another of your target Personalities: Give the Personality +3F. After the next time this turn another player's action targets him, negate its effects.

Thank you in advance.

b).

Each Consideration's delayed effect triggers "after the next time this turn another player's action targets him," and neither effect removes this trigger. This is different to, say, Kakita Kensho-in (Experienced), whose trait creates a delayed effect that scrubs its own trigger, so that other such effects have nothing to trigger them.

See the following paragraph under Timing Sequence, which does apply to Kakita Kensho-in exp, but not to Consideration: The order of resolution means that triggered effects that come first, due to the above order, the order of Reactions, or the active player’s decision, can negate or otherwise make impossible triggered effects and Reactions that come later. When this happens, Reactions to the now nonexistent trigger may not be taken, and other effects are not triggered by it.
