A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I realize we're just going through the legal motions (effectively) at this point, but can you please explain why Hidden Defenses works in the Rules Forum for future searching purposes? Thank you. I'd hate to be the TO who rules it wrong because he didn't search the correct forum (RE the Previews Forum post by RogerGS: viewtopic.php?p=1262485#p1262485)

Certainly. With regards to Hidden Defenses, the First Cardinal Rule (Cards vs. rules: If the text of any card contradicts these Comprehensive Rules, follow the card text, not the rules. Something that changes one aspect of a rule does not by itself change any other aspects of the rule.) allows its Battle action to override the normal restriction of the Rule of Presence.
Or as Roger more eloquently said, THE CARD WORKS.
