impromptu deul vs utaku ji-yun

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 October 2011 to 30 October 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Is utaku ji-yun a valid target for an impromptu duel, as the refusal of the duel means she dishonors, and her trait does not allow her to be dishonored.

Also, would you be able to target her with an accidental confession to stop her assignment and movement to a battlefield?

Is utaku ji-yun a valid target for an impromptu duel[?]

Yes, her trait has no consequence on the legality of her targeting for Impromptu Duel. If her controller refuses the duel, Ji-Yun is not dishonored but the player whose Personality challenged her gains 4 Honor.

would you be able to target her with an accidental confession to stop her assignment and movement to a battlefield?

Yes, the negation of the first effect that tried to dishonor her, has no consequence on the following effects of Accidental Confession, per Action resolution: "Effects of an action are independent. If any effect fails to occur (for example, bowing an already bowed Personality, moving him to a location he was already in, or being negated), the other effects still happen."
