Scandalous Rumors and Cowed by Wisdom

L5R CCG Rules board, 12 September 2011 to 21 September 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 12 September 2011

Scenario: I have 5 samurai personalities attacking a province. The defender uses Scandalous Rumors and I choose to target and try to move all my people home. Before the resolution of the action, Cowed by Wisdom is played by the defender. Because of this, I want to reduce the honor loss to 1 via seppuku.

Am I required to seppuku everybody as everybody was the target of the action, or can I seppuku only 1 person?

While you COULD seppuku everyone if you wanted, you are not required to do so.

Since Scandalous Rumors only creates one loss, it only takes one seppuku to reduce it to 1.

Addendum: While it would be hilarious, you actually CAN'T seppuku everyone to the loss.

Reacting to the same trigger with the same printed copy of a Reaction (in this case, the Rulebook Reaction is a single action) more than once is forbidden by the Rules.

My apologies for getting that bit wrong above.
