A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

As has been established in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=91744&p=1217683&hilit=Toson#p1217683
Assuming that a players can, and does, legally announce the Naval Reaction and the Defender announces Shosuro Toson XP reaction and the discards a personality from the province. After the defender plays and resolves his action (performed by Toson), does the attacker have to perform (or pass) his next action with the same personality that he used the naval ability with?

No, he does not.
He "lost" the first opportunity to take an action in the battle when Toson "stole" it from him. Consequently, he ALSO lost the restriction that said first action had to be performed by the targeted Naval Personality.
