Actions played as other types

L5R CCG Rules board, 15 July 2011 to 16 July 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So I saw this. And thought I would put my two cents into the pile.

Rules say this about abilities with two designators.

EXCEPTION: Abilities with two designators, such as “Open/Battle,” count as having both individual designators, but the action they generate has only one designator, according to when the action was taken.

Since there is no Rule precedent it seems that the card text is saying you are taking a Battle action.

Take an additional action to use a Limted or Open Recon ability as a Battle action

Vs say Plans within Plans text

Play during another player's Action Phase. At your next opportunity to take an Open action, you may instead take a Limited action. Effects that last until one of "your" phases ends, end during the appropriate phase this turn.

So you are taking a battle action thus it does trigger Ring of Water, yes?
