Timing Question

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 July 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Real quick Question: Are the timing notations "after your event's phase" and "before your action phase" the same timing window or different timing windows? In other words, does the active player choose the order in which they trigger, or does the "after" come before the "before"?

This is relevant for me because of the cards Reinforce the Line and Daigotsu Miki.

If I Reinforce the Line the personality Daigotsu Miki into play, do I have to discard a card to get him to survive?

I can see the argument both ways, but do not know the timing issues. I also can't see this questions being asked before, or my search fu has failed me.

Relevant card text: Daigotsu Miki Spider Clan • Shadowlands • Samurai • Conqueror • Paragon • Undead • Dark Fist of Iron After Miki enters play: Lose 1 Honor. After your Events Phase, you may remove a Dark Virtue in your hand or discard pile from the game. If you do not remove one, destroy Miki.

Reinforce the Line Before your next Action Phase begins, you may bring into play a face-up Personality in one of your provinces.

Different.

General Rules on Sequence of Play: "Triggers “after” the end of a phase or segment happen prior to any triggers “before” the start of next phase or segment."
