Enticement and Unique items

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 June 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi

This one requires a bit of set up to explain - the personalities do not matter but the interaction of Enticement and Unique items does

Player 1 has Togashi Sakata with Armor of the Ryu attached. He also has a Wooden Barricade in play

Player 2 has Togashi Satsu with Armor of the Ryu attached and a Togashi Nakahara

Player 1 plays Enticement targeting Player 2's Togashi Nakahara, paying all costs. Nakahara switches sides and cannot attack while Player 1 controls him. Player 1 then transfers the Armor of the Ryu to Nakahara.

At the end of turn, as per Enticement's text, Nakahara would attempt to return to his owner's side of the table, but this would produce a conflict of a player having 2 of a Unique card in play (he would have both Armor of the Ryu's)

Would this cause the Enticement return to fail, allowing Player 1 to keep Nakahara until the end of the game (my understanding is that Nakahara would continue to be unable to attack due to Enticement says "while you control him" but he would be a free defender)

Regards

Correct.

The instantaneous effect returning Nakahara to Player 2 would fail, so he would remain under Player 1's control; the ongoing effect preventing Nakahara's assignment and movement continues while Player 1 controls him.
