Hidden Scandal...

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 June 2011 to 12 June 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 7 June 2011

Hidden Scandal Open: From now until the turn ends, after a player gains 5 total Honor from his own card effects, negate his further gains from such effects, and after he looses 5 total Honor from other players' card effects, negate his further losses from such effects.

Can you play Hidden Scandal on a player who has already gained 5 or more honor to negate all future gains? Or does all 5 of the honor have to take place after the card is played?

Basically, what is the card checking "from now until the turn ends"?

A) Is it checking if the player has actually gained 5 total honor points SINCE Hidden Scandal was played? Thus, they could gain 3 before Hidden Scandal, then 5 after hidden scandal, with all of it counting?

or

B) Is it checking if the player crosses the "threshold" of "5 total honor" after Hidden Scandal was played? Thus, they could gain 3 before Hidden Scandal, then 5 after Hidden Scandal which would "trigger" Hidden Scandal and reduce the 5 gain to a 2 gain to reach "5 total honor"?

No. The card says, "From now until the turn ends..." (emphasis added).
