Self Game of Sincerity

L5R CCG Rules board, 1 April 2011 to 2 April 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can I chose the performer as the target of Game Of Sincerity?

Battle: Dishonor your target unbowed Personality: Dishonor a target Personality. His controller loses 2 Honor. Neither Personality contributes Force in this battle's resolution.

Thanks!

Can I chose the performer as the target of Game Of Sincerity?

Because they are not targeted simultaneously, no rule prevents it (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Abilities_and_a ... _targeting and http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Targeting).

Aren't they both required targeting, and thus simultaneous? I thought it would only be different timing if the effect targeting is optional.

No, both targetings happen during the same step but the performing unbowed Personality is chosen before the other targeted Personality, per Explicit performing and required targeting (emphasis mine): "At this step, an action’s explicit performers must be chosen, and required targets from its constraints and effects blocks must be targeted, in the order the performers or targets are mentioned."

There is one exception that does not matter here: "Two or more targets or performers are chosen simultaneously if they are grouped together by a number (such as, “target two Holdings.”)"
