Shosuro Takuma and Shiba's Guidance

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 January 2011

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Shosuro Takuma targets a random Phoenix Personality, the Personality dies during the action phase. The scorpion player attacks and the Phoenix player uses Shiba's Guidance to bring the personality into the battle.

Two questions.

1. Does Takuma's ability remember the personality after they die for the purposes of placing poison tokens?

2. Is using Shiba's Guidance considered moving the personality into the battle?

Relevant cards:

Shosuro Takuma

Open: Target a Personality. After the next time this turn his unit assigned or moves to a battlefield, give him a -1f Poison Token.

Shiba's Guidance

Battle/Open: If you are a Phoenix Clan player, discard this card: Bring your target honorably dead Phoenix Clan Personality into play in your home or at the current battlefield, ignoring costs.

1. Does Takuma's ability remember the personality after they die for the purposes of placing poison tokens?

Yes. Such an effect on a card is "forgotten" only the card becomes out of play AND face-down (see the Tracking Rule).

2. Is using Shiba's Guidance considered moving the personality into the battle?

No. Shiba's Guidance brings the targeted Personality into play from the discard pile, but an effect is a movement only if it changes a card's location, and the discard pile is not a location (see the Glossary, Move and Location).
