Is Performing specifically targeting?

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 October 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A situation occurred yesterday in a game where it could have been necessary to know whether performing is explicitly targeting. More specifially does the action on wooden barricade target the 2 performing personalities. I was inclined to think not as I seem to remember reading something that performing was not targeting unless actually stated but I have been known to be wrong before.

Open: Even if this card is bowed, choose your two performing Personalities: Transfer a target attachment on one of them to the other. If the attachment transferred, straighten it.

Thanks in advance

http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Targeting: "The word 'target' must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting -- just 'choosing' something is not targeting."

Wooden Barricades only targets the attachment, because that the only place the word "target" appears.

Performing is not synonymous with, nor dependent on, targeting.

That said, we are trying to move to making "performing" much more explicit, and usually determined by the appearance of the word "performing" rather than targeting.
