Hey there,
i did a quick search but didn't find anything.
When exactly is the timing of "if"? For example, if a card says "straighten it if it moved" would it be the same as "after he moved", before or after this trigger?
Thanks a lot
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

There is no general rule. It depends on the card text.
re to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=85937, because i cant post a reply in it.
no general rule the nightmare of each judge.
i asked this cause a question came up which i wasn't sure about.
sb asked if he can use tamori masako reaction after moving her with beloved of the clan if she was bowed.
Reaction: After Masako's unit assigns or moves to a battlefield: Give the battlefield's province +3 or -3 strength.
Battle: If any enemy units are at the current battlefield: Move your target Personality there. Straighten him if he moved.
also i cant see why it would depend on how the card is worded. most cards i can think of say "straighten if he moved". id appreciate if u could give me an example where your answer would differ.
thanks a lot

Not sure what "sb" stands for. "SomeBody" perhaps? Anyway...
Effects occur in the order written. It's not really the timing of "if", it's the timing of the effect. The second effect of Beloved just happens to be conditional; it will only occur if the Personality moved.
So, the sequence in your example is:
1. Misako moves. 1a. Chance to react to the movement; but you can't if she's not unbowed (abilities on bowed cards not being usable). 2. Since she moved (assuming she did), straighten her.

Well, you were asking very pointedly about "if" (given the subject line of the post), which has other uses beyond conditional effects. But I hope the above suffices for your question.
