Strike from the Shadows and Black Hearts, Red Blades

L5R CCG Rules board, 28 July 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Strike from the Shadows: Reaction: After engaging, if you are the Attacker, target your Ninja Personality at the current battlefield: You have the first opportunity to take a Battle action in this battle, which must be performed by a Ninja. You may discard any cards in the current battlefield's province; if this discarded a Personality, draw a card.

Black Hearts, Red Blades Battle: Target two of your unbowed Ninja Personalities without non-Ninja Followers: Move them home. If both of them moved, discard any cards in the current battlefield's province and draw two cards.

If there is a battle with 2 ninjas, can Strike From the Shadows be played to sneak attack and use Black Hearts, Red Blades as the first action and retreat with both ninjas? Or does the text on Strike from the Shadows limit you from playing the card (which must be performed by a Ninja)?

Thanks,

If you mean, "Does having two Ninja exclude something callling for 'a Ninja' -- no. See: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Special_wording ... _of_things
