If Hisao is at the a battlefield with Imperial Outpost attached, may I choose him to bow (and have it negated) or does the effect of the Imperial Outpost imply I must choose a unit and actually bow it?
Imperial Outpost Reaction: After engaging in a battle at this province's battlefield: The Defender, then the Attacker, each choose and bow one unit in their own army.
Hisao Negate the bowing of Hisao and his Followers from cards' effects while he is in an army.
Thanks,

http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Choices: "A choice may be made even if its consequences would be negated, prevented, or otherwise fail due to lack of suitable things to affect."
Choose Hisao if you want.
