Proper Deference and Honor losses

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 July 2010 to 14 July 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Proper Deference

"Political Reaction: Before a turn ends, if the active player has gained 8 or more Honor this turn, excluding gains from battle resolution: Set his Family Honor equal to its value when the turn began. Draw a card."

Does the Honor gain referenced in the text refer to total Honor gained (independent of any Honor losses inflicted) or the difference between starting and ending Honor in a turn. For example, if player A gains 8 Honor and loses 2 Honor on his turn (excluding battle resolution gains) can player B play Proper Deference to set Player A back to his starting Honor that turn? I'm pretty sure I know the answer but an official word would be nice.

Difference in Honor between start and end of turn.

Did not the Plague War rules sheet in its clarifications not say specifically that it counts the gained honor not the difference between what the turn started at and ended at?

Thanks Az

That is correct. The previous post was wrong. ("Paper? You want me to read paper?" Where's the search function?")
