Only Actions Speak and Kakita Hideo xp

L5R CCG Rules board, 29 June 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I announce Steel on Steel being performed by Kakita Hideo xp, and my opponent reacts with Only Actions Speak.

My opponent immediately strikes and Hideo wins the Duel. Does Hideo's trigger of "After Hideo wins a duel" happen during the resolution of Steel on Steel, or after the resolution? Basically, will Only Actions Speak negate that honor gain?

Mod edit: Card titles.

I announce Steel on Steel being performed by Kakita Hideo xp, and my opponent reacts with Only Actions Speak... (W)ill Only Actions Speak negate that honor gain?

Yes. Winning is at step H in this sequence, well before the action resolves.

Aside: your opponent should react with Only Actions Speak when your action from Steel on Steel is announced (card text), which happens before you choose the performing Personality (see Abilities and actions).
