Can Duty negate the destruction from duels caused by Impromptu Duel and Imperial Adjudication?
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can Strength of the Bamboo negate the destruction from duels caused by Impromptu Duel and Imperial Adjudication?
Yes. Duels from those cards are effects of their actions, that target the involved Hero (either as the performer or the challenged Personality), so it is legal to play Strength of the Bamboo at that time. Destruction is an effect from these actions too, so Strength of the Bamboo will negate it.
Effects, Sources of effects: "Targeting, costs, effects and actions come “from,” or are done by, the card where the thing in question is originally physically printed. EXCEPTION 4: Duels come from the effect that created their associated challenge, not the rulebook."
Can Duty negate the destruction from duels caused by Impromptu Duel and Imperial Adjudication?
Yes, for the same reason: destruction comes from the action, it is "another player's card's effect" (assuming the Hero is not the challenger) and Duty will negate it.
