Height of Courage vs Courtesy

L5R CCG Rules board, 2 May 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 2 May 2010

I'm told by another player that if I react with the Height of Courage to his playing Courtesy targeting my personality, both movements are negated, so neither my personality nor his are moved home. This makes no sense to me, but I just wanted to check.

Courtesy:

Bushido Virtue Battle: Target your unbowed honorable Samurai Personality: Move him and a target enemy Personality home. Each Personality’s controller gains Honor equal to the Personal Honor of the other Personality.

the Height of Courage:

Reaction: Before the resolution of another player's action: Choose one of your personalities. Negate his movement from the action's effects.

That other player is not correct. If you use Height of Courage to negate your Personality's movement from Courtesy, his will still move. Even though the movements are written in the same sentence, they are separate effects.
