The Thriving Light and Prepare for the Worst

L5R CCG Rules board, 1 May 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I'm pretty sure that these two rulings taken together would mean that playing The Thriving Light in response to Prepare for the Worst will not reduce the Honor gain from the latter. However, there was a pretty solid debate over it last night, and since I'm trying to put two rulings together at 5am having not yet slept, I figured it couldn't hurt to get an explicit answer.

The Thriving Light (relevant action) Reaction: Before an action's resolution: Until that resolution ends, reduce the next Honor gain or loss by 5 (minimum zero).

Prepare for the Worst Open: If it is not your turn, target your Scout Personality: Target your province that has not been targeted by another card titled Prepare for the Worst this turn. Attacking Personalities and Followers have -1F while at that province's battlefield. Before this turn ends, if the province was not destroyed, gain 3 Honor.

Thanks!

That's correct.

Because the Honor gain from Prepare for the Worst is a delayed effect, it happens at a time after PftW's Resolution starts and ends. The Thriving Light would only reduce a gain that happens DURING that time.
