Jutsushi clarification

L5R CCG Rules board, 20 March 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I didn't notice a colon seperating the cost and effect of Jutsushi's action. I'm wondering if the personality targeted by Jutsushi has to be dishonored in order for the honor loss to occur? If the personality isn't dishonored when he assigns, does it fall under "if one part of the action isn't legal, the whole action is canceled" or is the honor loss only looking for the personality to assign? In which case, if the personality doesn't or can't assign, will that prevent the dishonor and honor loss?

These are variations of the frequently asked questions, "Is an action legal if an effect can't happen?" and "If one effect is negated, will the others still happen?"

The Honor loss occurs after the next time the targeted Personality's unit assigns this turn (Jutsushi's text), no matter if the delayed effect failed to dishonor him first. If the Personality doesn't assign this turn, Jutsushi's effects will not be applied.
