A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hello!

I am sorry I am creating a new post on still open case, but reply that I was provided with was ... er, from different case ?

Hello!

According to various sources (examples below), if Isawa Fosuta's ability is used by one player, then this personality changes controller, still the first player decides what is going with Fosuta's ability. In short.

May I ask for some rules link on which this ruling is based? I cannot find anything in comprehend rules that states that control could extend to lingering card actions even after control change. Rules in comprehensive rulings treat (Personality) card as final step in controlling, there's nothing about possible exceptions. An they are very precise about YOU word. Rules about delaying effects? Even some of O-Rulu Team (viewtopic.php?f=59&t=80638&p=1054505), while caught unprepared, cited the same rules supporting cause 'current controler controls whole Fosuta'.

Current ruling is based on interpretation : In the effect "While Fosuta remains bowed, you may negate his straightening" (Fosuta's text), 'you' is the player who controlled Fosuta when this effect began. interpretation. Where in rules we can find something that can support that? Thanks!

However, although I can't find anything in the current Comprehensive Rules, the ruling on Isawa Fosuta has long precedent, for example His Most Favored: The original player of this card loses the honor when the targeted Personality is destroyed. This may not be the controller of the Personality at that time. [RD, 22 September 1996]

His Most Favored text : Limited: Select one of your Personalities. Gain 5 Honor. This Personality is your tie to the Imperial Line. If this Personality is destroyed for any reason, lose 10 Honor. This card remains in play until this Personality leaves play. Basing on current rules, this action effects could be split as follows: 1) Select YOUR personality : Control is crucial. 2) Gain Honor : simple effect, no control issue. 3) Flavor and muffin text with YOUR tie : here lies a little surprise. See last paragraph, with 'alternate text'. 4) If Personality is destroyed, lose honor : simple if X do Y phrase. Excuse me, but there is no control or ownership reference in this effect. This action (HisMostFavored) simply states at this point : if pupil dies, lose Honor. No 'you lose honor' (see below). No 'controler loses honor'. Just 'lose Honor'. 5) Card stays in play sticker : of course, 10-point honor loss has to be Damocles sword hanging over there for some turns, not until end of turn. As you can see, after selecting of Personality, there is no mention or reference to Personality's control state, shuffling loyalties, crosslinked 'you' references and so on. Then - Isawa Fosuta is puzzled - why bring it up?

Oh, an by the way - if this action text looked something like this : (added a YOU to honor loss effect) Limited: Select one of your Personalities. Gain 5 Honor. This Personality is your tie to the Imperial Line. If this Personality is destroyed for any reason, YOU lose 10 Honor. This card remains in play until this Personality leaves play. Then, again, who controls the selected Personality is irrevelant - because YOU reference is on _action_ card that stays in play, not on Personality in question. Only problem is that Personality is still mine - orginal player - tie to Imperial Line, due to same 'you' interpretation on _action_ card in play. But, Imperial Families know better who is who among them Still, in both cases, HisMostFavored 'precedence' is simply ... not a precedence, because it has nothing to do with the case.

Can we get back to YOU on Fosuta, please, and precedences for current ruling?
