Chi 0 and source of effects

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 January 2010 to 12 February 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

"From" the CR: A Personality’s destruction for having 0 Chi comes from the cost or effect that last gave the Personality a Chi penalty, or from the rulebook if there was no such cost or effect.

Ok. But what if the last Chi Penalty comes from an attachment (such as Jade Tetsubo and similars) that I have just Equipped (using the player ability)? Is it an effect "from" the attachment, or "from" the Equipping action? Is it considered an effect from an action (triggering Udo and other cards)? Is it any different if I use any other card for attaching (e.g. Obfuscation)?

Side Note: The Chi glossary entry and the Chi Death rulein the CR both link to a non-existent destination

Kicked up to the Rules Junta.

As per precendent:

The Chi penalty is from the item, not the Equip rulebook action. The same is true even if the item is attached via Obfuscation.

Such destruction would be a rulebook effect, and not from the resolution of an action.

No dice on Udo for that.
