Isawa Fosuta Experienced + Udo

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 September 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Does it work? Y/N

A player, 10 September 2009

No.

Udo's Reaction can be taken to create a ghul "after the resolution of an action that destroyed a Follower or Personality" (card text). The resolution of Isawa Fosuta's own action ends before its effect starts to put Curse tokens. As a consequence if these Curse tokens destroy a Personality, this happens too late to use Udo's Reaction.

In regards to this viewtopic.php?f=59&t=79034

Does Udo "suffer" from the same timing issues as Shikibu no Oni?

A player, 10 September 2009

I apologize but I don't understand your question. Which "timing issues" are you talking about please?

My apologies Loïc, I was trying to oversimplify my question.

I meant to ask (assuming the way I put this is correct) If an action is played and resolved with delayed effects that destroy a personality or follower (such as Seidan Sanzo) does Udo simply not trigger, as shikibu exp's second part of his trait does not trigger (since the action already resolved).

No you cannot use Udo's Reaction if a Follower or Personality has been destroyed by the delayed effect of an action (e.g. Seiden Sanzo, Mountains of the Phoenix), because this action's resolution has already ended so it is too late. The destruction must come from the immediate effects of the action, or from its costs (e.g. Expendable Resources).
