A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings! 1. With the new wording of Ring of the Void from celestial edition, Is it legal to play it after 3 consecutive insights and a random strategy card (First insight let me play another insight on top of my deck, then another, then lets say.. charge)? 2. I play phantom blade kata from my hand during my limited phase and use its ability. Does it count towards 2 actions for ring of the void? (Playing the kata from my hand would surely count, but using its ability seems to count as well.. it is a strategy card..I know it grants the player an ability but it has already been ruled that I Am Ready counts for Ring of Water)
Insight: Text Dark Virtue Battle: Target one of your Samurai: Look at the top 3 cards of any Fate deck. You may rearrange them. You may take an additional Battle action to play one of them that is a Battle Strategy.
Ring of the Void: After you successfully resolve your fourth or later non-Kiho action from Strategies in one phase: You may put his card into play from your hand. Open: Bow this card or discard it from your hand: If any player has more cards in his hand than you do, or if you bowed this card, draw a card.
Phantom Blade kata: Limited: Put this card into play in your home. Discard any other Kata cards you control. While this card is in play, you have the ability, "Spirit Limited: Discard a card: Create a +2F Spirit • Weapon Item and attach it to your target Personality

Yes, assuming you successfully resolve the Battle action from this fourth Strategy and it is not a Kiho action.

Yes. Ring of the Void looks for successfully resolved non-Kiho actions from Strategies. The Limited action that puts Phantom Blade Kata into play is one such action, the Limited action it grants that creates a +2F Spirit • Weapon Item is another one (cf. Glossary, From).

Phantom Blade Kata reads Limited: Put this card into play in your home. Discard any other Kata cards you control. While this card is in play, you have the ability, "Spirit Limited: Discard a card: Create a +2F Spirit • Weapon Item and attach it to your target Personality (emphasis mine)
While playing the kata would naturally count, surely its presence in your home grants the ability to you. Therefore, wouldn't the use of the ability be coming from you, not from the strategy card?

No. Effects never come from players: only cards and the rulebook. See http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Source_of_effects

A little in relation with this: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=78682
During my limited phase, I play imperial marriage on my courtier, take the favor, then use it. From my hand I play another copy of imperial marriage and take the favor once more. Have i successfully met the trigger to put ring of the void in play?
1. playing imperial marriage from my hand 2. taking the favor (since the action originated from imperial marriage) 3. playing another copy of imperial marriage. 4. take favor (through 2nd imperial marriage)
I guess the real question is whether taking the favor through the action from imperial marriage counts for ring of void. My guess it should, because phantom blade's kata player granted ability also counts.
Thanks.

No. http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_F#From: "Costs and effects of traits and abilities given to other cards, copied from other cards, or on created cards, come from the card they are currently on."
(Previous mistaken answer fixed. Missed that An Imperial Marriage gave the ability to a card, not a player.)
