Wrath of the Elements

L5R CCG Rules board, 20 July 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I checked but couldn't find the appropriate ruling. My aplogies if I just overlooked it.

Wrath of the Elements says Battle: Bow one of your Spells in your current army: Ranged 4 Attack that may target a Personality with attached followers.

The question is, since the ranged attack isn't actually coming from the spell, is the personality the spell is attached to performing the ranged attack?

No.

No one and no thing "performs" Wrath of the Elements' ability.

CE Rulebook, pg. 35:

"Perform: A Personality or Follower is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action, and any of these things is true:

• The action comes from an ability on the Personality or Follower. • The action comes from an ability on an Item or Spell in the Personality’s unit. • The Personality or Follower was targeted in the action’s constraint block (the section between the two colons)."

Wrath meets none of those three criteria.
