Any chance of an update on this ruling for Celestial Edition?
Preserving Honor (CE)
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
In Celestial Edition, the exception to the Rule of Location is slightly different than in Samurai Edition (see below, emphasis mine).
Battles, Rule of Location, Exception: a Battle action can target or be taken by a card in a unit at another location if its costs or effects say they are able to move that unit to the current battlefield. The player who is taking the action must take choices within the action, if possible, such that they do move that unit there. Other players than the player of the action are not forced to make such choices, although if another player has the option to move the unit to the current battlefield, the action is legal to play.
As a consequence, you may still use Preserving Honor to target an enemy Personality at home but now his controller is no longer compelled to move him to the current battlefield. He may choose either to bow him or to choose any other location and move him there. If the chosen effect is negated, then the targeted personality is removed from the game.
Note that if the chosen effect fails to happen for any reason other than negation, he is not removed from the game. For example bowing a bowed Personality fails but is not negated, as well as moving an attacking unit that has already been in an attacking army during battle resolution this Attack Phase (see the Second-Battle Rule).
