Ritual of Summoning and Shameful Injury

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 June 2009 to 5 February 2010

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Basic question is, if someone uses Ritual of Summoning and let's say three turns later is hit with a Shameful Injury, would they go back to their original force if it was lower than the five that Ritual of Summoning made it? Guess the question is would game state remember its original force and that it has a bonus even if it has been set to the new force for so long. Thanks!

Ritual of Summoning's action provides a permanent Force bonus (or penalty), Shameful Injury negates Force bonuses (and penalties) from actions, so yes Shameful Injury negates the Force bonus (or penalty) from Ritual of Summoning's action. Per the rules about negation, this ongoing Force bonus (or penalty) ends when it is negated and does not reassert itself when the negating effect of Shameful Injury ends.

Side note: to remember the exact Force bonus given by Ritual of Summoning is a duty of the players, not of the game state.

Correction: due to a major change in the Comprehensive Rules, the negation effect from Shameful Injury is ongoing and lasts until the turn ends, so the second part of the answer above has become incorrect: per the rules about prevention, the ongoing Force bonus from Ritual of Summoning is negated until the turn ends, then it reasserts itself.
