Obsidian Dragon and Chi penalties

L5R CCG Rules board, 4 May 2009 to 5 May 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

The last post I was able to find about this stated that it was under discussion in September of 07. If I apply a chi penalty to a personality being affected by the Obsidian dragon, does that personality's chi decrease further if it was already 1?

Example: Doji Borken blocks Obsidian Dragon Doji Borken is non-unique with 3PH and 3C. I apply a 1 point chi penalty from some other card. Does Doji Borken die?

Thank you for using the search function. Unfortunately you must have missed: "timing affter assigne vs while opposed!" and "Obsidian Dragon plus Wounded in Battle" and "Obsidian Dragon Redux".

Yes. Obsidian Dragon: "Imposes a minimum on its own penalty, not to the Chi stat. Thus: [...] A Personality's Chi can be reduced to 0C by Chi penalties from sources other than Obsidian Dragon."

Doji Borken [is opposing] Obsidian Dragon. Doji Borken is non-unique with 3PH and 3C. I apply a 1 point chi penalty from some other card. Does Doji Borken die?

Yes.
