Duty. Bushido Virtue Reaction: Before another player’s card’s effect destroys one of your Personalities, destroy one of your honorable Samurai Personalities at the same location: Negate the first Personality’s destruction.
The end is near. The costs of this Spell and its ability cannot be reduced, substituted, or waived. Limited: Bow this Shugenja and four other of your target Shugenja, such that each of the five has an element keyword that the others do not, and destroy this Spell: Destroy all Personalities in play
Can Duty prevent destruction from The End is Near? I'm not sure if duty's effects are a substitution.

Yes, it can.
The End Is Near's prohibition on "substitutions" only applies to its costs (bowing the Shugenja and destroying the Spell), not its effects (blowing everyone up).

I couldn't seem to add this to the end of my preious topic so I had to make a new one. Sorry.

Determination. Dark Virtue Reaction: After you announce an action, target one of your Samurai: The action cannot have its effects negated or have its targeting changed. After the action destroys any Personality, remove him from the game.
Can Duty prevent destruction from The End is Near if I use determination? The end is near doesn't target, but can't have its effects negated which is what duty does.
All this trouble to get rid of Pekkle!

As was mentioned in the previous answer, you don't need Determination for Duty to prevent the destruction from The End is Near.

That's how it goes, homer. You should skim this; I worked really hard on it.

Assuming the opposite scenario as Zen did above, perhaps you are using Determination with The End is Near rather than with Duty.
In that case, no, Duty can't save the Personality. Duty's negation will be negated by a Determination played along with The End Is Near; it doesn't matter that TEIN doesn't target.

Well, I'm glad you told me. Thus, I can also point out that if you kill a Pekkle no Oni with an action for which you also played a Determination, your opponent will NOT lose the 10 Honor. Sorry. (See here.)
