Spin the Kharmic Wheel and negation.

L5R CCG Rules board, 19 April 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 19 April 2009

A player annonce a action witch could destroy (e.g. Hired Killer) on one of my personnalities, and I play Spin the Kharmic Wheel as a reaction.

Is the effect of Hired Killer considered negated by Spin the Kharmic Wheel's? If the annonce of Hired Killer is followed by Determination's reaction, what occurs?

It was supposed that the wording implies an alteration of the effect and not a negation (so Determination would be useless in that case), but some rule support seems necessary on that point.

Thank you !

Spin the Kharmic Wheel Kiho Reaction: After an action targets one of your Personalities, target your Monk: The action's effects that would destroy your Personality shuffle him into your Dynasty deck instead.

Determination Dark Virtue Reaction: After you announce an action, target one of your Samurai: The action cannot have its effects negated or have its targeting changed. After the action destroys any Personality, remove him from the game.

Hired Killer Limited: Pay Gold equal to the target’s unit’s Gold Cost plus 2: Lose 3 Honor. Destroy a target Personality.
