Cards that affect personal honor and coming into play

L5R CCG Rules board, 15 April 2009 to 17 April 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I have two questions concerning personal honor. (These are both Legacy questions)

1) Does a card that increases personal honor, such as Utaku War Plains, mean that when a personality comes into play and you gain their honor, you gain honor equal to their printed honor or the modified honor? (For instance, if you buy Utaku Jane with a personal honor of 3 and you have Utaku War Plains in play, do you gain 3 or 4 honor?)

2) Do cards that affect personal honor affect cards not currently in play? (Such as Utaku War Plains or Tsukane's Ascends? )

Too general to give an answer, because too much depends on the specific wording of the individual cards. I'd answer the examples, but there is no card called Utaku War Plains.

I'm assuming he meant The Utaku Plains: http://l5rsearch.com/db/search.cgi?title=utaku%20plains

In which case, I'm assuming he wouldn't gain the additional 1 honor as the rules wiki states:

He may reduce the Gold cost to play the Personality by 2. If he does not choose to do so, he may choose to gain Honor equal to the Personality's Personal Honor just before he enters play (also know as "buying for Honor"). A player may only gain Honor this way once per turn.

To gain additional honor off of a personality entering play, I'd assume the card would have to explicitly state that personality/personalities in AND out of play have +1PH (eg. Ikoma Asa).

I'm sure Zen will confirm it.

Correct. Things that change Personal Honor while in play can't affect gains when buying for Honor.
