Source of attachments

L5R CCG Rules board, 27 February 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

At the risk of sounding like Art, I have a kind of nitpicky question.

From Comp rules: Attach When a player attaches an attachment card, he or she brings it into play, adding it to a personality’s unit. If the source of an attachment card to be attached in an effect is not specified, it must come from the player’s hand. Transferring a card from one unit to another is not attaching. A Personality card is not considered attached to its attachment card. Thus, Followers, Items, Spells, and so on are always considered "cards without attachments."

When a player attaches a region, he or she brings it into play, associating it with a Province. Changing a region’s province is also considered attaching.

An effect that lets a player "attach a card" does not allow attachment of a non-attachment card. [ADDED February 12 2008]

The second sentence is the part in question (bolded). How clear does the specification of the source of the attachment have to be?

For instance Gunso Tabarou and I Carry Two Blades, clearly state a possible source as the discard pile. While cards such as Fortified Camp and Clan Heirloom merely seem to imply that you can attach from the discard pile, by virtue of the trigger for the Reaction.

If Fortified Camp can attach from locations other than your hand, can it be used to attach a card that is already in play?

The card attached by Fortified Camp must be in the discard pile.

This will probably need technical errata, so we'll keep you posted.

There's no need to comment on other players' questions.

I'm not giving this a warning, because this might be a humourous jest between two people who know each other very well. But keep in mind that someone on the outside might see this as one player sniping at another. And that can get people official warnings.
