Legacy Holdings

L5R CCG Rules board, 4 August 2008 to 5 August 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 4 August 2008

Alright, I've a tourney coming up so I need to make sure I can get some of the rules right.

The first one is the Legacy holding one. The rule book reads "Since it is important for a player to have gold on the first turn of the game, the player may..." I understand that as any player only have the option of bowing his stronghold for a legacy holding on the first game if he does not bring any gold production holding into play. But another player argues that since the wording in the rulebook is not exclusive and any player should be able to bow his stronghold for a legacy at any GIVEN TURN. He even points further and claims there is an official ruling on it on line.

I disagree with his argument and can't find the link over the rule site. If I've overlooked it, please let me know where I can find it so I can correct my reasoning.

Thanks

The complete rule is on p38 on the rulebook; it's also in the Comprehensive Rules, here.

All players have the following ability: Reaction: After your Dynasty Phase ends, if you have brought no Holdings into play this turn, bow your Stronghold: Search your deck, then your Provinces, for a Legacy Holding. Put it into play without Gold cost.

This ability may be used on any turn, not just your first.
