Got a Yoritomo Eriko with a Blade of Hubris. Since bowing the weapon is the cost for Yarijutsu, can I declare a naval invasion, and use Yarijutsu with Eriko's Blade of Hubris?
Naval + Yarijutsu
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Aside: "naval invasion" no longer exists.
Assuming you speak of the default Naval ability in the rulebook, you are granted the first opportunity to take a Battle action, which must be performed by your targeted Naval Personality (Yoritomo Eriko) or one of her Naval Follower, but Yarijutsu is never performed by any card (see Glossary, Perform). As a consequence you can never use Yarijutsu as your first Battle action thanks to the Naval ability.
Bowing Eriko's Blade of Hubris as a cost for Yarijutsu doesn't mean that Eriko would perform Yarijutsu. _ The action does not come neither from an ability on Eriko, nor from an ability on Eriko's Blade of Hubris. _ Eriko was not targeted by targeting in Yarijutsu's constraints block.

I don't quite understand why it wouldn't work. Naval says the Naval personality or follower on the naval personality must perform the action.
Yarijutsu says: Battle: Bow one of your Weapons at the current battlefield: Destroy a target Personality opposing it with no Weapons, no Armor, and Force less than the Focus Value plus Force bonus of your Weapon.
Since the weapon bows as part of the cost, the weapon is performing the action, right? Actions performed by an item or spell are considered to be performed by the personality. So, if the weapon is performing Yarijutsu, wouldn't the Naval personality be performing Yarijutsu and be able to be used as the Naval action?
Thank you!
Since the weapon bows as part of the cost, the weapon is performing the action, right?
No. Weapons are Items and Items never perform any actions.
Glossary, Perform (emphasis mine): "A Personality or Follower is performing an action if [...]"
Actions performed by an item or spell are considered to be performed by the personality.
No. Neither Items nor Spells never perform any actions. It seems to me that you are misunderstanding this rule in Glossary, Perform: "A Personality [...] is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action, and [...] the action comes from an ability on an Item or Spell in the Personality's unit."
wouldn't the Naval personality be performing Yarijutsu and be able to be used as the Naval action?
No.
Glossary, Perform: "A Personality [...] is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action, and any of these things is true: * The action comes from an ability on the Personality [...]. * The action comes from an ability on an Item or Spell in the Personality's unit. * The Personality [...] was targeted by targeting in the ability's constraints block (between the two colons)."
_ Yarijutsu's Battle action does not come neither from an ability on the Naval Personality, nor from an ability on an Item in the Naval Personality's unit: the action comes from an ability on Yarijutsu, which is an Action card. _ The Naval Personality was not targeted by targeting in Yarijutsu's Battle ability's constraints block: there is no targeting in this constraints block.
