Re: Etsui vs. Kikaze/Doukohito

L5R CCG Rules board, 21 May 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In regards to this thread:

The answer was:

All of these questions are variations of, "Can I take an action if an effect that makes it legal is negated?"

To which the answer is, "Yes."

http://rules.l5r.com/Battles#Rule_of_Presence: "Even if the movement is known beforehand to fail -- for example, due to ongoing negation effects, or due to the unit having been in an attacking army during the Resolution Segment of another battle -- the action can still be taken, because of the Blind cards rule."

To follow-up in both cases of Daidoji Kikaze and Doji Doukohito an additional Battle Action is granted in conjunction with their ability to move themselves to the battlefield. Would the Rule of Presence also be fulfilled for that subsequent Battle Action if their movement was negated?

(I)n both cases of Daidoji Kikaze and Doji Doukohito an additional Battle Action is granted in conjunction with their ability to move themselves to the battlefield. Would the Rule of Presence also be fulfilled for that subsequent Battle Action if their movement was negated?

No. The effect only gives you the opportunity to take an action, and does not automatically make it legal. The legality of the additional action must be evaluated on its own.
