For purposes of Clear Signals, in determining what "base tactician" meant, I always played it that they had to have "tactician" printed among their keywords on their card. I treated traits that gave tactician under certain circumstances, such as Mirumoto Toraizo gaining Tactician with a Mountain Card in play, as being not "base tactician", since they only received it under certain circumstances. However, the question recently came up in our league, and while I tried to defend my position, I couldn't completely convince my opponent... so, now I ask the question here: is "base tactician" limited to the tactician keyword printed directly on the card, or does it also apply to tactician-bestowing traits on the card?
Clear Signals and "base tactician"
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Base:
'"Base" refers to a stat or keyword that exists on a card or other entity as printed (following the most recent printing) or initially created, without modifications from effects.'
Mirumoto Toraizo is given the Tactician keyword by his trait (or, if you like, by the effect of his trait); it's not a base keyword.
