A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I a m surprised the question has not arised yet but my search-fu has not been succesfull
the cards text:
In time of war: Until the end of the game, during each turn, a player's Family Honor can not rise over its value when the turn began plus 5.
Darling of the season: Until the end of the game, each player cannot lose more than 5 points of Honor in total from other players' cards in a single turn.
I wanted to understand how thoose two cards react when they have their ongoing effect negated, for exemple with a shrine of the sun.
Shrine of the sun: Limited: Bow and destroy this card: Target an Event in a discard pile or in play owned by another player. End all its ongoing effects. Shuffle it into its owner’s deck. That player can resolve the Event an additional time this game.
exemple 1: player A's In time of war has resolved: it's player B turn. B has 20 honor at the begining of the turn, he then gains four honor with different action. then play an impromptu duel that is refused. so he sould be at 28 honor but In time of war say the max honor he could have is 25. Then B used a shrine of the sun and target In time of war, thus negating all it's ongoing effect. Does B have 25 honor (all the honor points in exceed have been lost)? or 28 honor (the maximum just dispeared and the honor points have been gained) ?
exemple 2: would it fonction the same (in a honor loss instead of honor gain way) with darling of the seasons?

See Raise/rise:
'The phrase “cannot raise/can not rise” negates all bonus or gain beyond a certain number, but does not negate gain up to and including that number.'
While these effects are active, they create partial (or complete) negation of honour gains/losses that adjust the honour gains/losses themselves at the time.
In example 1, when the Impromptu duel is refused, player's B gain of 4 honour is partially negated by In Time of War and reduced to 1, giving player B a total of 25 honour. If Shrine of the Sun is then used to end In Time of War's effects, the partial negation of the honour gain is not negated.
