The Good Faith Rule as a limitation

L5R CCG Rules board, 2 May 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

OK, so I'm looking at the whole Lies, Lies, Lies discussion here. And the original poster, having been told that an action is not legal, seems to be invoking the Good Faith Rule as a reason why it is legal.

This does not sync with my understanding of the Good Faith Rule, so I thought I'd check for a clarification.

As I read the Good Faith Rule, it is a rule about when you can't take actions. Is this correct? Can the Good Faith Rule ever let you take an otherwise non-legal action?

Sorry, I know this is a bit beyond the specific interaction questions you guys prefer.

edit: acronyms minimized

Probably not. I say probably because "otherwise non-legal" is a pretty wide ranging description.
