When a card says "target a dead personality" does it mean 'target a personality in a discard pile' or should there be two discard piles, one for killed personalities and one for discard/cleanups. If I clean out my provinces at the end and there are personalities in the pile are they considered dead or just discarded?
The meaning of dead.
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Special rules cover Personality cards in the discard pile. A Personality who is destroyed in play enters the discard pile as dead; the card is turned 90 degrees in the pile and remains that way while there. This is not bowing.

They are in one Discard Pile. Dead people are people who got into the Discard Pile by being Destroyed. You make them by turning them on their side as opposed to regular Discarded personalities.
I hope this helps!
