Deadly Ground + Determination + Dark Path of Shadow

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 April 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi,

If I play Deady Gound with Determination, may my opponent use the Ninja's Stronghold without Determination?

The cards

Determination Dark Virtue Reaction: Before you announce an action, target one of your Samurai: The action can not have its effects negated or have its targeting changed. After the action destroys any Personality, remove him from the game.

Deadly Ground Immediate Terrain Battle: Players can take no actions for this battle except ones that destroy this terrain

Ninja Stronghold Battle: If the total Chi of an army attacking one of your Provinces is less than 10, send all attackers home, bowed. You can do this while this Stronghold is bowed and in a battle in which you cannot perform actions. + Rulings - Ability can only send home the army in the current battle. [Erratum] - Ability is usable if prohibited by a card effect (e.g., Deadly Ground) or with no units in the battle. [5 May 1999] - Ability is not usable if you do not have a chance to perform Open or Battle actions (e.g., Crushing Attack). - Ability can be canceled (e.g., Storms of War). - Being bowed does not stop a card from adding its Chi to the army. - Ability bows all cards in attacking units, not just Personalities. Thanks in advance,

Bye...............Rémi.

Yes. The Dark Path of Shadow doesn't negate anything; it allows things.
