Retributing a retribution?

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 March 2008 to 18 March 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

i understand that we can play one retribution after another, because after a trigger, we can play reaction to the trigger until both players pass.

However, i am asking that, since a retribution create an attack phase, can one play retribution in reaction to the attack phase created by retribution.

hence

player 1: attack phase ends player 2: play retribution, and create an attack phase where he is the attacker player 2: attack phase ends player 1: play retribution against player 2's attack phase ending <--- can this be done?

Yes. In your example, the first Retribution played by Player #2 creates an additional Attack Phase against Player #1. The end of this additional Attack Phase is a valid trigger for Player #1 to play his own copies of Retribution against Player #2, and so on. After the end of the round of Reactions to the end of this additional Attack Phase, the round of Reactions to the end of the first normal Attack Phase resumes and, assuming Player #1 passes at that time, Player #2 may play a second Retribution.

See the rules about timing.
