Quick question: does Iaijutsu Art + Wear Him Down work to put the Ring of Fire into play?
Old enlightment: Iaijutsu Art + Wear Him Down
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Quick question: does Iaijutsu Art + Wear Him Down work to put the Ring of Fire into play?
I don't understand the question.
Ring of Fire says, "Focus Effect: You may give this card -2 Focus Value. If you do, and you win this duel, put this card into play."
I'm not sure what that has to do with Wear Him Down or Iaijutsu Art. All you need to do is focus the ring, give it -2C, and still win the battle.
Older versions of the Ring of Fire (Diamond Edition, for example) are all subject to modern MRP of the Ring of Fire, if that's the source of confusion.

.. and to win that duel, does Wear Him Down work? I thought this question was simple. I play Iaijutstu Art, my opponent does a focus 4, I focus with the Ring of Fire, he strikes, I react with Wear Him Down, add 3 to my focus and win the duel by focusing 5 vs 4. On the other hand, this may not work depending on how the cards are interperted. Perhaps Wear Him Down cannot even be played or perhaps my ooponent can focus a second time. What do you think?
Limited: One of your Personalities challenges another Personality with an equal or higher Chi to a duel that cannot be refused. Each Personality must focus exactly once if possible. The loser of this duel is dishonored, but not destroyed. The winner of the duel gains 4 honor.
Reaction: Play this card as a focus when a Personality strikes against one of your Personalities in a duel. That Personality must focus instead, if possible. You may draw a card. You lose your next opportunity to focus or strike in this duel.
You may not play cards "as a focus" if you've already focused during an Iaijutsu Art as that violates the "must focus exactly once if possible," clause of the card effect.
