Seat of power again

L5R CCG Rules board, 15 January 2008 to 16 January 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 15 January 2008

My opponent is attacking my province with: Daigotsu (xp2) - dishonorable Chuda Ikumi - dishonorable Daigotsu Iemitsu - dishonorable Daigotsu Hidetsugu - honorable Muketsu - honorable

I defend with Kakita Noritoshi (xp2) at that province. There are no personalities at other provinces.

My first action is to play Insolence Punished - I target Noritoshi and Muketsu (lower chi than Noritoshi) and all the dishonorable personalities at my opponent's army, to send them all home. Can my opponent use seat of power to redirect the targeting on Daigotsu to other dishonorable personality at that battlefield? I am already targeting all dishonorable personalities... can a personality be targeted twice by the same action (one by me and the other by seat of power)?

Thank you

Martin Lund (rules official), 16 January 2008

You may also target any number of dishonorable Personalities in the current enemy army ...

Required targets are designated in the order described, including simultaneously if a number of targets are indicated by a number (such as, “target two Holdings.”)

So all the dishonorable Personality targeting happens at once.

No card can be targeted more than one in a single instance of targeting - hence no meeting "target 3 Samurai" with one Samurai or triggering "whenever X is targeted," triggered effect infinite times.

If Daigotsu and Chuda Bob would both be targeted simultaneously, you can not use Seat of Power to have Chuda Bob be targeted twice and Daigotsu never targeted at all.

This is pretty much the same thing as Shuten Doji's Fury vs. Take the Charge
