Castle Barracks

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 December 2007 to 18 December 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can a Crab player use castle barracks' action to retreive a follower from discard pile and attach to an attacking personality? (paying the complete cost).

“Castle Barracks Castle Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold, or 3 Gold when paying for a Follower. Battle: If you are a Crab Clan player, or if you are the Defender and have only one province: Target one of your Personalities. Attach a Follower to him from your discard pile, waiving costs if he is defending and opposed.” [MRP, Samurai Edition, 25 July 2007]

With regards to this post http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=64151

i did, i searched the forum, and found the post you refered to, it explains quite clear about the costs block of the card, but thats not what i meant to ask for (im sorry if i was not clear enough on my first post, in not english native).

is the "if he is defending and opposed" clause a condition for the whole action (meaning it won't have any effects if you are not defending), or a condition just to waive the cost (meaning a crab can do it while attacking even if not opposed, but he should pay the follower's cost)?

i ask because the "waiving costs if opposed.." sounds much like the original WILL wording, which was ruled to be a condition necesary for it to work at all, if my memory don't fails me. (i also searched the rules site for template wordings, but couldn't find it).
