ring of water under superior strategist

L5R CCG Rules board, 3 December 2007 to 4 December 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 3 December 2007

So let's say i have a tactician called Akodo A in a battle, i already have played three different battle action in this battle (for example the three shouts) and i Akodo A has not performed a tactical action this turn yet.

So i play a superior strategist targeting Akodo A, i search in my deck for a Ring of Water, I succesfully resloved four battle action with different text so in reaction of the resolution of my superior strategist in play ring of water.

Question 1) is this even possible, i suppose the real question: is the card that i have searched with superior strategist in my hand between the end of resolution of superior strategist and the begining of the following additional battle action ?

I will suppose i can for the rest of the question.

So now i have the ring of water in play before i could play it for is battle action.

Question 2) Can i can take an additional action to play the battle on ring of water anyway (bowing it as a cost) ?

Question 3) if i can't do that or don't want to do that, i must discard the card by the text of the superior strategist, but the ring of water is already in play and superior strategist, so in this case do my ring stay in play or is discarded anyway ?

relevent text:

Superior Strategist Tactical Battle: Target one of your Tacticians: Search your Fate deck for an Action card with a Battle ability. You may take an additional Battle action to use one of its Battle abilities; if you do not, discard it.

Ring of Water After you successfully resolve your fourth or later Battle action from cards with different titles in one battle: you may put this card into play from your hand. Battle: Bow this card or discard it from your hand: Move one of your target units home or to a battlefield with one or more enemy units. If the unit moved, straighten it.

From here: http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_D Discard As a verb "discard" means: 1. By itself, referring to a Fate card: To remove a card from one's hand and put it in the discard pile. 2. By itself, referring to a Dynasty card: To remove a card from one's Province and put it in the discard pile. 3. A card may also be discarded from other areas than the hand or Provinces, going to the discard pile, but this must be stated explicitly. See Areas of the Game. By default, the phrase "discard a card" has meaning 1, referring to discarding a Fate card from hand.

2. Some effects grant an “additional” action of a given type (usually Battle, Open or Limited).

A granted additional action does not count against the normal sequence of actions in the current segment or phase; for example, an additional Battle action is taken immediately without waiting for, or expending, the next normal chance to take a Battle action.

Whenever an effect grants an additional action while another action of the same designator is in progress, the timing of the additional action is delayed until after the current action resolves. This makes sure that Battle actions can not occur within other Battle actions, and so on. ["After" ADDED August 14 2007]

Taken from the Comprehensive Rules - Glossary A: "Additional"

Moreover, the additional action of Superior Strategist is Delayed until "after Superior Strategist resolves," and Delayed Effects are always resolved before Triggered Effects or Reactions to that same trigger.

So you have to complete the additional action from Superior Strategist before anyone gets to introduce Triggered Effects or Reaction to "after resolving" the first Action.
