Another Toshi Ranbo Question

L5R CCG Rules board, 20 November 2007 to 26 November 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 20 November 2007

My opponent discards Honor targeting the honorable samurai Akodo Anonymous and using the favor effect to cycle a card. Anonymous-san then assigns to attack at Toshi Ranbo. I defend with the honorable Magistrate Doji Sipowicz and use Restoring Order to send Anonymous-san packing. What happens?

1) Honor's effect is a targeting restriction and not technically a negation (although the end result is the same) therefore Toshi Ranbo cannot trump it.

-or-

2) Toshi Ranbo trumps Honor and Anonymous-san gets smacked with the long arm of the law, going home.

Thanks alot!

There is nothing technical about it. You can't target the Personality under the effects of Honor to meet Mandatory Targeting. You never even get to the point where Restoring Order would produce any effects that Toshi Ranbo could impact.

Remember, taking an Action involves several sequential steps:

- Announce the Action - Mandatory Targeting - Cost Payment - Effect Resolution

Until you get to Effect Resolution, Toshi Ranbo doesn't factor into the equation.
