intro) In reference to the first question there, about Share the Blame and Yoritomo Sachina.
Unless I make an enormous mistake, a part of Mr Lund's first answer means: when an action is taken, if any required target becomes illegal (often thanks to a Reaction) between its announcement and "after all targeting and reactions to targeting occurs", then this action's effects "do not resolve and its costs are waived. It is still considered taken, but not resolved". Am I understanding it correctly please ? If no, please give the right meaning.
1) If my understanding isn't too false, as a consequence if we look at A Soldier's Fate - which looks like Share the Blame very much, regarding timing - does Mr Lund's wise answer also mean this Reaction's second effect (bolded below) never negates any effect thanks to Samurai Edition's rules (since ceasing to be a legal target for the action at that time, would cause this action not to resolve, as it does with Yoritomo Sachina and Share the Blame) ?
A Soldier's Fate: Reaction: After another player's action targets a Personality in your army: Give him a Force bonus equal to his Personal Honor. If he is no longer a legal target for the action, negate its effects. If his Personal Honor is 3 or higher, he straightens after the Combat Segment ends.
A Soldier's Fate has been written long before Samurai Edition was released so it wouldn't be surprising whether part of its text was no longer useful. However I am not sure to have correctly understood Mr Lund's explanations nor to know the rules comprehensively enough, to make any worthy opinion on this second effect.
2) Moreover, there is a detail I want to be sure to understand well: to prevent an action from resolving this way, must the change in game state occur : _ immediately after the relevant targeting (and not after any other required targeting happening later), _ or anytime no later than immediately after the very last targeting (or after the dead last Reaction to this targeting, if any) ?
Here is an example: I am attacking some personalities including Bayushi Kaukatsu Experienced 2, my opponent is defending with an unbowed non-courtier samurai, he plays a Courtesy his samurai performs, no player takes any reaction at this time. Now he targets my Imperial Chancellor (no matter if willingly or thanks to a Misdirection). I intend to play Share the Blame but before I take this Reaction, rules about timing compels me to apply Kaukatsu's trait first, don't they ? I ask my opponent to target and dishonor any honorable personality he controls. Unfortunately my opponent's courteous samurai is his only honorable personality therefore Kaukatsu dishonors him. As a consequence, this performing personality is no longer a legal first required target for Courtesy because this action requires an unbowed honorable samurai. This change to dishonorable status on this virtuous samurai is happening far later than after he was targeted to perform Courtesy, but also just before I play Share the Blame, the last Reaction to Courtesy's last targeting. Has my opponent's samurai become an illegal target "after all targeting and reactions to targeting occurs" ? Does this Courtesy action resolve please ?
3) Accordingly, might the rules team offer the rare and precious favor to share with us some of the main reasons why rules have been designed so that Reactions after an action's targeting, which makes this targeting illegal, also prevents the action from resolving, rather than considering that any targeting's illegality no longer matters after this targeting has taken place (instead of "after all targeting and reactions to targeting occurs") please ? I am not trying to argue pro or cons, just trying to understand the rules and their spirit better, if common players are allowed to know such things...
epilog) If a casual player is reading this, he might not be uninterested in knowing two little consequences another "yes" answer to my second question above (cf. 1), would produce according to me: if you play A Soldier's Fate on your Personality so that she is no longer a legal target for the action thanks to the Force bonus this Reaction provides (for instance by shielding her from The Seventh Tower), then your opponent no longer needs to pay any cost for his action (e.g. he discards no card for The Seventh Tower) but if he played it with Determination (or anything preventing effects from being negated, such as Devious Explorer), this Dark Virtue was wasted.
Thanks once more for the unequaled help that the courageous rules team provides to all players everyday. You are like a shining lighthouse in the darkest sea or a spring of fresh water in the hottest desert.
